A Star is Born (review of movie)

WOW! What a PERFORMANCE. There is a lot of discussion on Lady Gaga’s contribution to the movie industry, but she is definitely worth this watch. In this, her first movie, Lady Gaga has given an Oscar winning performance. Gaga is not only an incredible singer, her acting is very good and natural as well. Director and CO-star Bradley Cooper surprises us all with his INCREDIBLE voice and talented acting. Watching this movie, you could tell that both are very invested in their characters and the story itself.

A famous country music singer, Jackson Maine (played by Bradley Cooper), is privately battling an alcohol and drug addiction. After Jackson plays a concert in California, he visits a drag bar and meets a waitress and singer-songwriter, Ally (played by Lady Gaga). When Ally sings at the bar, Jackson immediately notices her talent as a singer and songwriter. He is amazed by her performance.

Jackson arranges for the two of them to meet in her dressing room. They spend the night talking to each other during which Jackson invited her to perform with him at his next concert. Ally performs, and after the concert Jackson invites her to go on tour with him. They begin to collaborate musically and start to form a romantic relationship.

One day, Jackson brought Ally to the ranch where he grew up and where his father is buried, only to find that Bobby (Jackson’s brother and manager) had sold the land. Angered, Jackson punches Bobby feeling that Bobby betrayed him. The two get in a heated argument, Bobby then quits working as Jackson’s manager.

Ally meets a record producer who wants to sign her to his label. Jackson doesn’t like the idea but supports her choice to join the label. Over the next few months, Ally’s career skyrockets in the music industry while Jackson’s career deteriorates as he increasingly struggles with his alcoholism.

While Ally is taking a bath, a very drunk Jackson starts to criticize her and call her ugly names. Ally angrily throws Jackson out.

Ally is nominated for three Grammy Awards. At the Grammys, Halsey awards the Best New Artist Grammy to Ally. When Ally goes up to give her acceptance speech, Jackson drunkenly stumbles onstage next to Ally, pisses himself and immediately faints.

Jackson subsequently enters a rehab program and attends weekly group AA meetings. When Ally visits him, Jackson tearfully apologizes for his actions. When Jackson comes home, Ally would like Jackson to join her for her upcoming tour to revive his career, but her record producer says that is out of the question. In a private conversation, the producer tells Jackson he should stay away from Ally because he is going to drag her down with his behavior.

Ally tells Jackson that she is canceling her tour so they can spend the summer together. Jackson promises he will go to her last concert and try to stay sober.

I’ll stop here, you NEED to see the film!

This film is extremely engaging and powerful. It will suck you in from the beginning.

– Bravo!
