Watch if you dare…..

I decided to do a horror movie called “Watch if you dare…” The film is about two girls in their mid-twenties who decided to go camping. Throughout the night they hear noises and movements coming out of nowhere. As the girls are sound asleep, one of them abruptly wakes up to an unpleasant noise, fearing that there is something out to get them.

In my project I used a combination of the web, audio, video and giphy. My adobe software was having some trouble while I was trying to create this project so I ended up having to edit my videos and putting them together in IMovie.

I wanted to use props that I already had and my family just got a new tent the other week so I decided to put it into good use and use it for one of my main props within the film. I used whatever I had around me to make sound effects. I used sticks, a shovel, a leaf rake and my piano.

The movie begins with the sound of me playing the piano. I used Adobe Audition to edit my sounds and try to create a spooky feel. I knew I wanted to incorporate music within my video to start the film having that creepy sensation so the viewer from the start knew it was supposed to be a scary film. After the piano plays for about 5 seconds in the beginning of the video, I made my own pictures using PicsArt which is an app for image editing, collage making and drawing applications. This allowed me to use my own pictures and edit the text and draw layers on them to get that spooky aesthetic feel. I used PicArt for the “Once Upon a Time”, “Two girls decided to go camping…”, “7 Hours Later…” and the ending of my video with the credits, which you will see throughout the film.

Working with sounds was a bit tricky in this particular video. There was a lot of background noise when it came to us walking on the leafs. I tried to lower the background noise and enhanced the voice sound make sure it was clear enough to understand what the actors were saying. Throughout the video I was trimming and editing the clips to make sure that the movie would run smoothly and make sense. I edited my film multiple times to make sure the sounds were all correlated with the clips and there was nothing off about the timing.

One of my favorite parts about this movie was making the gifphy. I thought it would be a fun idea to create a galaxy like picture that had movements of a shooting star when it came to the part when the girls looked up at the sky and realized how beautiful the sky looked. I thought it was a very aesthetically pleasing touch. Moments after the galaxy, you see the scene of where the girls are asleep in their tent and I have the piano playing again. I was trying to convey to the viewer something is about to happen. I worked with my friends to get that perfect shadow like movement to appear in the tent, while editing the movie I placed that clip in a very certain part within another clip and it ended out working perfectly which I was so excited about!

All in all, I had such a great time filming and creating this project! My friends were such a great help and very sweet to give me their time. It truly amazes me how much you had do within these different types of software’s and how creative you can get. I know I will continue to use them and I am excited to see what else I will be creating in the future!
